During March 2013 some considerable work has taken place in and around the L&BR's second station at Chelfham. The small 'Friends' group has been busy continuing various projects, all of which will assist towards the eventual removal of the 1960s over-the-platform extension and the restoration of the station building to its original 1930s L&BR / SR condition.
The extension housed the bedrooms and a bathroom, so in order to continue to provide facilities for volunteers and visitors after the extension is removed, a new toilet must be incorporated somewhere within the original building. The small porch area just off the waiting room was the obvious choice as photos and drawings show that in SR days this doorway was 'bricked up' with a window.
