Chelfham Station photo update – Spring 2017

L&B Trust members will have seen the latest article in L&B magazine No.112 which updates recent progress throughout 2016 and last winter. Nigel Thompson presents the very latest views here in advance of the Spring Gala and AGM weekend with many expected to visit Chelfham over the weekend.

All are welcome to visit Chelfham from 10am on both days of the Gala Weekend to enjoy woodland and trackbed walks. Secondhand books and limited refreshments will also be avaiable. As parking at the station is very limited, please - if possible - park along the lane under the viaduct.  SAT NAV EX31 4RP

As well as this weekend, the station is open every Sunday as well as many Wednesdays throughout the year.

1. Chelfham Station May 2017.

2. In this view looking towards the down siding, the ‘CHELFHAM’ running-in board has been recently painted in SR green by Julian and Lindsay Palmer.

3. The stored bogie open wagon (No.54) too has also had a coat of L&BR departmental grey. Lettering is to follow.

4.  The "Down" platform looking towards Lynton.

5. The ex SR benches (acquired from the West Somerset Railway) have all been restored and painted this spring. The gang work on the benches inside.

6. The first completed bench is now in place on the down platform – well used by the work parties for lunch and tea breaks.

7. David and Lynda Swallow have been constructing steps in the bank from the trackbed to the woodland walk path.

8. Here is the first completed set of steps which can now be used to access the trackbed.

8. Walkers enjoy a stroll along the northen section of the trackbed. The bluebells at Chelfham are amazing at this time of year.
