Roadworks TriangleLYN is looking good!

Nigel Thompson returns with this week's report

Last weekend's Local Residents Day was very successful with many visitors from Devon and Somerset enjoying a free ride and also providing great support to the railway via the Tea Rooms and Shop.

Although quieter today, the trains still ran for the benefit of those out and about and also provided a pleasurable backdrop to the usual variety of tasks undrtaken by the Thursday Gang.

1. LYN arrives at Woody Bay with a morning train.

2. LYN's Driver Graham Varney keeps a platform seat warm whilst fireman Graham Bridge chats to our visitors.

3. Today's Assistant Guard Jim Price (left) and Thursday Gang regular, Dave Evans, 'test' some new red (stop) flags. Dave has made new wooden handles for them.

4. Today's Guard Bob Ayres in the Brake Compartment of Coach 16 with his usual green flag - used to wave off the train on departure and rested on the hand brake wheel showing brake off.

5. Seen through the Guards Van window is the track gang standing by. The gang were jacking and packing and tamping today.

6. At Killington Lane, a small fencing project was being completed by another gang as LYN runs-round.

7. Tim Woods and Dave Pratt were also at Killington Lane supervising a tidy-up.

8. Bob Ayres on the lever frame platform - ready to give the token to LYNs crew.

9. & 10. Two Views of LYN with the train at Killington Lane about to depart.

11. Back at Woody Bay, Nigel Spencer is removing any fresh rust of the railings.

Paint Shop Boys in action

12. Geoff Long degreasing ISAAC's tank filler caps.

13. A rare view of the paint shop devoid of rolling stock!

14. & 15.  Jim Pounds and Barrie Cann - currently restoring and repainting a Limit of Shunt signal lamp housing.

16. ISAAC's restoration must be finally complete as the Paint Shop Boys have now repainted the steam dome cover.
