Statfold is a steam engine built as recently as 2005.by the new Hunslet Engine Company based at Statfold Barn. The locomotive's initial visit to the Lynton & Barnstaple was its first visit away from Statfold. It was used for several periods during the 2006 season hauling passenger trains. Statfold returned to the L&B in 2007 and again in 2008 for the summer season.
The locomotive is built to the standard "Quarry Hunslet" type design. Originally these locomotives were built as small industrial workhorses for use predominently in the Welsh slate quarries. Many examples of the earlier locomotives still survive, but this locomotive is a little different being that it is the first to be built solely for use on heritage steam railways.
