Built in 1886 by Hunslet for the Dinorwic slate quarry in Wales, Velinheli is the oldest of the 'Alice' class baby Hunslets. The loco is normally based at the Launceston Steam Railway in Cornwall, but visited the Lynton & Barnstaple at Woody Bay in Autumn 2006 for the annual steam gala weekend.
During the gala there was opportunity to see Velinheli working alongside and also double-heading with Statfold, the newest steam Hunslet loco - a mere 110 years separating them!
