Those who saw our recent work over the Forum/Remembrance weekend will be pleased to know we have further progressed removal of the garage and workshed on the up-platform.

In order to improve the L&B’s sustainability, a first delivery of plastic sleepers, manufactured in the U.K. by Sicut Enterprises, is due this month. The sleepers are made using waste plastic (45Kg per sleeper for narrow gauge) hitherto destined for landfill or export to the Far East. The cost is comparable to hardwood.
After a site visit, Chelfham Station has been shortlisted for the Hendy & Pendle Trust Volunteers, National Railway Heritage Award
The Hendy & Pendle Trust Volunteers Award is for projects with significant volunteer input, for an historic railway or tramway building or structure in any ownership.

The L&BR has recorded its best ever performance for the month of August, beating our previous record results.
Overall takings were up by over 60% and the number of passengers carried was over 13,000, an increase of 26%.
The Trustees and Directors would like to record their thanks to all our staff and volunteers, in whatever their role, for the work put in to achieve this outstanding record in difficult times.
Our thanks also to the many visitors that helped to make this happen.
